Is 1080/30p better than 720/30p on the HVX200?

yup. I shot 720 for a while thinking I was doing myself a service by saving space, but then I shot in 1080 and I never went back to 720

Thanks, I just wasn't certain the block on the HVX200 actually could deliver the added resolution as a 2/3rd chip camera would. Jim.

It doesn't deliver as much of a boost as a 2/3" camera could. But it is a little sharper, and it's much less compressed.

Thanks Barry. I was hoping there was enough of a benefit to justify about double the card space to shoot 1080/30p and we probably will go that way if the image is roughly 15% sharper. The final target for the finished footage will be mainly for the web and possibly dvd-Blu-ray down the road so the less compression on the original files should help to make a difference. I also favor 1080/30p since the files edit well between the HVX-200 and an HDX-900 which we have mixed in the past. Thanks again for the advice. Jim.

I was told that unless your shooting for national geographic, 720 would be fine. LOL I guess I'm taking that advice until the cards drop in price and I can get a bigger one AND more harddrive space.
