Is 1080 24p recorded as Progressive?

Does that mean that it looks more like "video" in the 1080 mode?

If so, then would I be better off using the 720 60 mode for the "film" look?

24p is just one part of the 'film look'. The video look has rubbish depth of field, poor resolution, smeary motion and a fast interlaced frame rate like 60i which doesn't handle motion blur well.

A proper 24p 'film look' should be like a moving DSLR photograph but that depends on so many other things being present, and not just the frame rate.

I think there is more to be said for a lower shutter speed than how it's presented on screen. The smooth video like motion, but with motion blur and shallow DOF is the way of the future, because it fires resolution into your eyeballs faster than 24p :)

Let's not get distracted on lighting and art direction and DOF and grain and noise and latitude and production design and camera movement and all those other components of "the film look". What I'm talking about is if you shoot 24 frames per second of footage, and broadcast them in the USA or any other 60Hz territory, those 24 frames will be embedded in a 60i data stream in the exact same way as the GH1 does it.

Therefore, if someone likes the way film frames are presented on broadcast television, they will know what the frames are presented like on a GH1.
