I've located a very clean low hour DVX100B. The seller is firm at $1,000. The price seems a bit high, but there aren't a lot of these machines locally available. Your thoughts?
Thanks to all for the replies. The DVX comes with the original accessories and is claimed to be in excellent condition. I'll get a chance to see it early this week.
Is there anything I should look out for in particular when checking out the camera?
Before making the final decision I've also found a HPX 200 (not the 200a) for $2,500. No P2 cards included, but all original accessories. I'm tempted to make the jump to the HVX, but with the rapid changes in formats and sensors it seems to me that owning what many people consider to be the finest SD camera in the DVX100B is a better move for now.
I'm just a hobbyist, shooting for my own enjoyment. No commercial outlet, and whatever I create will likely be a DVD as a final format. My only concern was the 4x3 versus 16x9 format, but from what I've heard from members of this forum, the DVX handles the 16x9 format pretty well.
Again, thanks to all for the advice and comments. This is a great forum - you should be very proud of what you're doing here -- great info and friendly people: what more can you want?
But for your uses the dvx should fit perfect in your hands, the 4x3 isnt actually as bad as you think it is, i say to get the dvx, buy some great accessories for it (filte, tripod, dolly, matte box, lighting, mics., programs, adapters... all that good stuff)
instead of just getting a semi pro. camera with nothing to record on :/
