"Irrational Exuberence" for the AF100?

The concept is right, the features numerous, the preliminary footage promising, the price very reasonable. I'm almost a believer now too, ready to order. But I can't help but wonder - am I the only one thinking that you should still never buy the first version of anything, but instead wait until the complaints filter in and the inevitable bugs are worked out? I'm thinking of how the HPX300 was found to have enough problems that required a new model to quickly replace it. And the AF100 of course is not just a new camera but a whole new type of camera. Then there is the thought that maybe it's being rushed out the door to meet the year-end promise and beat the competition to the new niche for PR rights. From a concept under glass at NAB to 75% last month to 100% ready for the assembly line in the next month or so? It just seems like a bit of a leap of faith.

It's not a leap of faith. It's good business strategy for Panasonic. For small productions such as mine whose films may never felt the awe of a giant theater screen, it is good news. I was looking forward to the day when I don't have to mess with those bulky DOF adapters and accessories that makes those tiny cameras looked ugly and out of shape. Along came the DSLR... one step forward as far as DOF is concerned. Now, the Panasonic AF100. The camera I was hoping for. The is good enough. I for one will not be fussy and acting like a cry baby for what it lacks. I'll take what it has for the moment... until a better one with an affordable price comes along. One film project will have paid for it already, so... I'll be in the wagon of the first wave of the AF100.

I bought a first batch HMC150 because I needed the cam at the time, and it was the right one to get. No major problems, but I'm sure it built off of the DVX and HVX problems/fixes. Just wait until DVXUsers start getting the AF100, and posting their thoughts.
