Iris, Zebras, and Marker to get the right exposure

The DVX has several switches/ways to get the right exposure: the IRIS, the MARKER, the ZEBRAS.

I’d like to know what are your opinions on how to play with these different exposure options in order to achieve the right exposure.

The IRIS allows us to choose the overall amount of light but is this enough? The image may contain too bright zones and for this the camera has the ZEBRA settings so we don’t blow up the brightest areas of the picture.

What about the MARKER? The MARKER allows us to know the video level of every part in the picture…

What percentage does the MARKER display when the image it is checking out is black? What percentage can tell us that the camera is seeing some light in the shadows? Which percentage is acceptable in the black areas for no to get a too dark image?

Do the brightest zones in the image (those that trigger the 100 % ZEBRA) correspond with the highest percentage level in the MARKER?

All in all, how these three options/switches interact with each other in order to achieve the right exposure?

I think the right exposure is the most important issue the filmmaker must have in mind to get the picture he is after.

Your opinions are greatly apreciated.
