Iris v. Shutter Speed?

hello,

I'm new to the DVX and am wondering what the difference is between the iris and the shutter speed in regards to letting in more light. Is it better to use one or both in a specific instance? and does it change the way the video will look (i.e. fast shutter speed makes it smoother)?

Fast shutter speed requires more light and will make the motion choppier. Slower shutter speeds don't require as much light, but will make things blur a little more.

And the Iris is a mechanism that controls how much light is getting past the lens.
