Iris question.

I just returned from shooting an interview and I am puzzled by the actions of the auto iris. The shoot was inside, the subject was lit with two Lowel LED's. Just for the heck of it I threw the camera into auto iris, zebra at 80%. no zebra was showing and I thought the image was a bit dark but the iris stopped down two stops from wide open. Why didn't the iris open up all the way? I love this camera but am confused by some things. I am coming from a typical broadcast camera with a high end lens. the iris was pretty easy to understand. This one has me baffled. I need some help from the good folks on this forum.

Cheers.

I would be curious what your scene was composed of. If you were interviewing someone and they happened to be against a white or light background that could cause the iris not to be completely open and probably not give you 80% zebras. Being that in auto, I'm going to take guess that it's trying to control more around what you would see as just under 100% zebras in the highlights.

I haven't done much in auto other than some goofing off outside and it seemed to hold up very well.

Thanks mapper65. Background had no highlights. Even the waveform was only at 50 IRE. That iris should have been wide open. The more I use the camera the more I will understand it I guess.

Ah....I think I know why you are seeing this. You may want to look through the details of the scene that you were using. I don't have my camera in front of me but I think there is an auto iris adjustment in each scene file and that's probably what's going on. Take a look at that and see what it's set for in the scene that you were using. If I remember correctly, it's a target brightness. Maybe it's set low on the scene that you were using.
