Iris dial issues

Sometimes when I open up the iris with the dial, it suddenly slips back down to being dark again. Ill raise it up to get more light in, and suddenly it drops to almost completely dark. Is there somthing wrong with the dial that I can fix? Am I turning it too fast? I use it often.

Sounds like the potentiometer (variable resistor inside the camera that is moved with the outside dial) may have dirt in it. A tech can spray some contact cleaner into the potentiometer to fix it. Not sure how hard it is to get inside there. It's the same problem that you may have experienced when hearing scratchy noises when adjusting volume on audio equipment.
