F55: IRE setting for false color / zebras on Odyssey 7Q

I just got the Odyssey 7Q and don't know how best to set the false colors / zebras to give proper exposure. Has anyone here set up a 7Q and figured out the exact setting for sLog, standard or both!

It's nice that everything on the 7Q is customizable, but it also means you have to have a much more solid understanding of the technology.

It's mostly preference, but I would define ranges that show you shadows over the noise floor, one stop under middle grey to middle grey (ie. 22-32 for slog2), middle grey to one stop over middle grey (32-42 for slog2), 52-62 to show up to 90% white reflectance, then a range to show over 100 or 109.

Thanks guys :)

I am starting to get better at this - I can't wait to post my first short film here for you to critique.

That is definitely part of it. I took the abelcine F55 class yesterday and learned quite a bit. Many of the folks in there had the same issues I did.

I ordered red a grey card today so I will start to use the waveform as intended. Dennis's blog wasn't familiar with everyone there so I sent them a link. Class went over the slog2/3 ire values and that really helped clarify it.

We we discussed zebra settings as well - what about you guys - where do you set your zebras? 79 and 100?

Ignoring any built-in camera LUTs or LOOK PROFILES, or external LUTs applied between the camera and external monitor these are the correct exposure values for slog, slog2, and slog3. You can use a grey card or white card to set your camera up to the right values:

So for slog2 you would want a "white card" to read 59% IRE, or a "grey card" would read around 32%.

I'm not a huge fan of using zebras for exposure and might use it in a crunch, but I prefer using a light meter or waveform monitor.
