F55: IR Pollution?

I'm about to buy a set of ND's and I'm wondering what the downside would be of always using IR combo ND's? (F55) Should I maybe get straight ND's and add a separate IR filter when required?

I know Sony have said they have intergrated IR filtering into the built in ND's, but is there such a thing as "too much IR filtering" Is IR always a bad thing? Does taking to much away affect the image?

I don't have much experience with IR, I figured with all the experience here on F3's someone would have some good insight?

Brad.

All of these cameras are idiosyncratic with respect to to Far Red and they all seem to require different filters - at least that's my limited understanding. I would wait until someone like Art Adams has done extensive testing. You could waste a lot of money on the wrong filters. There is unfortunately no simple answer to your question. Personally I would not filter any more than needed because you are usually affecting the red's somewhat as well. The fact that Sony's internal filters should correct the problem may be all you need even when adding extra ND in daylight, though you'll also probably want some lighter ND to correct for f stop when the internals are absent. TEST
Test your camera when you get it and see what happens with different ND filters.
