FS7: IR Cut filter

Does the FS7 have an IR cut on the sensor level? If I'm using tungsten lighting, or shooting indoors, would I require an IR cut filter to reduce IR pollution?

I asked Juan Martinez that same question at a FS7 event in December. According to him it does. I asked because I had an IR issue with my EX3 that required a filter to fix. I have not seen any IR issue with my FS7.

I can only say that I see IR pollution when using regular Tiffen ND grads on the camera, the darkened part of the frame becomes much warmer (filter does not have a neutral effect). Based on that I assume that the IR issue is there.

Sight unseen I'm willing to put money on the Tiffen Grad being warm not the camera. I've never seen one that wasn't. In fact lots of grads and ND filters generally are not neutral. Its surprising - don't believe the label. I realized this when I was doing tests with Art Adams and a Tiffen rep to figure out the proper IR filter for the EX1/3. We were testing a whole bunch of very expensive IR cut filters when I looked at one off the camera and said- "Hey this thing is Red all by itself." The whole set was Red. The heavier the ND the more likely its not neutral. Some brands are better than others.

IR pollution will not make the whole picture look warm BTW it will only affect certain fabrics - usually black or dark blues. Haven't seen an issue on the FS7.

Yup there's a big difference between a filter having a colour cast and IR pollution.

If in doubt, at the moment it looks like Firecrest is the way to go in terms of most neutral of the neutral density filters.

You are probably right but I have never noticed this very same filter act this way before.

Just look at the filter you don't need to put on the camera . If it's warm that's your problem

I guess I now understand what you mean (comma missing in your first sentence ). No, to the naked eye the filter looks neutral, does not warm up the view. It also does not warm up the view when used on my Nikon D600. For whatever reason, when used on FS7 it makes the darkened part very visibly warmer.

IR pollution usually only shows up on black fabrics (man made) under tungsten lighting. The blacks will have a reddish tint to them. It was really bad on my EX3 which I purchased in 2009. The only easy way to fix it was using a Tiffen T1 filter, made to fix the issue. Later models had the IR issue corrected. I have not seen the issue at all with the FS7. It's a pretty obvious problem.

If possible try on another FS7. trying the filter on a D600 and a FS7 is not an apples to apples test.

Are you in Cine EI mode or Custom?
