Which iPod is best suited for download from the HVX? I have a 'video' 60 gig model but the USB cable seems to be the wrong type. Has anyone found a cable that works with the recent USB only models? Which model was the last Firewire model? Doesn't firewire allow the HVX to verify after writing?

The newer ipods dont support firewire... I'm using a 3G and the camera does verify after i transfer via firewire.. The only problem is that once you format the ipod it has no OS and the buttons dont work, hence you cannot turn it off... as long as your batteries are good to go, its a decent solution for now...

So it runs until it's out of juice? How long does it last? Does the disk spin indefinately? That would be dangerours. What kind of cable do you use??

Technically none of the ipods really turn off they just turn off the display but the HD is always spinning just not as fast
 
A cheap solution for the power situation would be an add on battery pack. Would they still work assuming you've reformatted for HVX usage?

Again, I think we all agree this isn't the best solution, but if it works, hey, why not? I'd rather use an old iPod than lug my laptop around everywhere.
