It was just a matter of time. Over at iphonedslr.com an individual has put a SLR lens on to the iPhone 4. No test footage has been released. So I/we really can’t knock it before seeing the footage but here are the specs:

* Mount is for a Canon
* Future plans to add Canon FD lenses, Nikon lenses, and M42 lenses
* It weights about 1.1 lb
* Will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 4.

If your interested more pics and detail are available at my blog: www.osmanfliques.com

Cheers,

That is not going to work. The Iphone4 chip is probably about 16x (at least?) smaller versus ff35mm... thus the FoV is going to have a nasty crop factor! This negates almost all resolution and FoV advantages.

But then again, it's silly to shoot video on an Iphone 4, so why not make the clown more funny?

This is something I would have done when I was 12 in my garage. I remember taking video cameras apart and putting random camera, projector, telescope and likewise lenses on the camera. The coolest thing I ever did, was put a star-gazing telescope to my cameraphone. Was taking pictures of people from thousands of feet away.

Telephoto is not an issue however... the issue is getting wider angle lenses to work. As mentioned crop factor will favor telephoto, but 'normal and wide' perspectives will most likely be lost.

Can't believe I just wasted 5min of my time even commenting on the notion. :)

Footage posted now. REALLY don't know why anyone would do this. It's like taking ten additional steps to get from point "A" to point "B"...

More like taking ten steps plus jumping through rings of fire, traversing Orc controlled lands, walking naked into a gay strip club, and tightrope walking over the Grand Canyon in the jet wash of an F-15 to get from point A to point B.

I LOVE JELLO!!!!

I would like to see someone make a call with that thing attached.

Now you can capture things like funny people downtown or guys getting tazed by the cops in Cinema HD!

People are doing this for one reason above all others: hype.

I am all into frankensteining gear when it makes sense, but this doesn't. Plain and simple. There isn't a single good reason to do this.

Some bloggers say that the best camera is the one you have with you... not the phone camera that is modded to hell and doesn't produce anything comparable to the energy it takes to get it working...

This is just silly. I had a Pentax Optio a few years back while I was living overseas, and it was perfect. 4 megapixel sensor, long battery life, and it fit in an altoids tin. It did everything I needed, and wasn't a burden to carry with me. Now, iPhone users have the same functionality available, why mess it up? It's like I ask my gear head friends, why take a car that works fine and mess it up when you race maybe once a blue moon? Sorry, I just don't get it.

This is strange.

Its odd how the camera lifecycle goes, a few years ago it was all the rage to stick an slr lens on your small chip camera. Now its all about full frame dslrs. Maybe in a year or so all the 5Ds out there will be gathering dust and we will be making movies on an iphone.

I really hope not.

i took a nikkor 50mm f1.4 to my iphone 3G a while back; results were pretty ugly. like 'omg kill it with FIRE' bad. video was horrid (well for 15fps what do you expect?) even stills were bad.

never played with an SLR lens and 3GS or iPhone 4, but i doubt its a feasible endeavor. The crop factor alone would be insane, even a 9mm superwide would be so cropped in as to render it practically useless other than blowing up tiny tiny details, and you'd have to use odd and rare superwides to get any useful footage from it the way i understand things. and ANY flaws in the lens optics would be apparent i believe.

...so i highly doubt a 35mm iPhone adapter will really go anywhere but in the annals of 'just because i can'.

Original Poster, if you're gonna bother to post here, please post the details here, not just a link to the site you run.
(which in this case just summarizes details from a site you don't run) :)
