Greetings all,

I just finished a two week production for Summ-IT Healthcare solutions. This is a promo video to be played on a continuous HD screen loop for a medical convention in Orlando, FL. This was a conceived lifestyle piece for anywhere, anytime medical records smartphone/smartdevice applications. It was completely shot on the GH2 with the kit and the voigtlander .95 lenses. It was shot 60p for graphics sake and delivered in 24p. I am really happy with GH2 and this project was a lot of fun.. Not much on the high drama or action but some pretty images. I finally put together a corporate youtube account, but I'll put up a higher resolution version on my website soon. Currently we are going into production on a few more GH2 and AF100 collaborative efforts. Please comment on the youtube and stay tuned for more to come. I believe with this combination, I have a very nice working camera platform for my feature film...

here's the video and enjoy. It's 7 and a half minutes but its edited with pace .

Nice Justyn! I gotta get that Voigtlander lens. I remember you from my HMC150 days. I've finally made it over to the GH side. haha.

Me too Steven.. I still have my 150 but it's gathering dust since I got the Gh2. I also have access to the AF100 now as well. I'm sold on these little cameras for all kinds of applications...

The Voigtlander is an amazing lens...

Nce footage Justyn! so was this your trip where you blended in w/ the tourists? So how you like the AF100 compared to the HMC150?

Yes... This was my tourist video romp... I used it to great success in Winter Park, the golf thing, and at the beach. I know with WP there's a permitting fee and a whole heap of paperwork to deal with if you are shooting "video"....

I like the AF100 and have shot a bit with it, but I've not spent that much time with it just yet. I have a shoot coming up which will be working that camera out on... As for now though I'm really loveing the GH2 and the 150 stays in it's bag... I can get pretty much the same thing out of the GH2 with the added DOF and other factors... Of course there's no servo lens and audio is a different animal, but I'm not going back to small sensor videography for a long time...

The GH2 offers an amazing image for such a small investment. Even considering the 14-14, the Voigtlander, the 2 pentax lenses, and the two canon lenses with adapters and extra batteries, coupled with the rods and the followfocus, I'm still under what I paid for with the 150....
I do plan on getting an audio recorder to go along with the Gh2 and a better small camera mike... Overall though, I'm sold on the GH2... The AF100 is also a solid worker but I'm kind of more infatuated with shooting small and stealthy type stuff...

cheers.... Hope this helps... GH2 is a solid purchase for the price.

On another technical note... this was all shot handheld with no stabilizer or rig.. Just the camera, zoom handle and the ocassional ND Fader.

Nice Job

Nice Job

Great job. I really like this camera. Have been on the fence on ordering an AF 100, but it is a little more than I need right now, but I am waiting on the availability of the GH2.

Thanks bro.... I have access to the AF100 anytime I want, but I've been opting to shoot mostly with the GH2 due to convenience, liability, and also cause I think it offers a unique image in a super portable size... I can also put several cameras, audio and lighting all in one small bag...

The AF100 is a spectacular camera and serves a certain purpose and I'm glad to have the option to shoot both. Don't be dismissed though in thinking that the GH2 can't hold it's own in the final image.. cause it can for sure.. and in some cases it can do things the AF100 can't.. Like shoot out in the open without getting busted... lol That wouldn't have happened with the AF100 and I've found that people react differently to a still camera than they do to a video camera... They are more laid back and open minded and more easily approached without putting up their guard...

I love this site and the fact that we can all come together and share and inspire and entertain... This wasn't the most exciting video I've done but the client was beyond happy. He said he got compliments on the video, people stayed around his booth a lot longer, and the guy from Olympus came over and personally complimented him on the quality of the video.... he said it was outstand and that's as nice a compliment as you can get.. Another person said it was mesmerizing.. and maybe that's due to some large Plasma's playing this back on blu-ray.

That's the other point too. The footage looks so awesome via blu-ray.... My wife who's seen me doing this for a long time said that the footage is at another level. She never said that about the varicam footage I shot, or anything on the HVX or HMC... or even with the film stuff... It's a real gamechanger.... and that does apply to pretty much all of the DSLRs... I just happen to like this one a lot more than I liked the Canon...

cheers.

Justyn,

What type of audio gear/setup are you currently using or plan to use w/ the gh2? did you one off to blu-ray via FCP or are you pc based? can't wait for my gh2. thanks for the inspiration!

Looks great & nice AE work... but 7 minutes? That seems excessively long for a piece without any narration.... but, from your description I guess it's meant to be played in a noisey environment thats not conducive to a voice over.

@ boo : I will be using a variety of different audio setups. Sometimes I'll be using my HMC150, other times a zoom H4, and I'm also planning on getting some nice 6 track solid state recorder for a feature I'm doing.... I'll also be shooting a good deal with the AF100 so that's an option there. The audio stuff is exciting cause you can get really good results in a number of ways and some are really inexpensive... I will also probably pick up a Rode mike for the camera, too. I did the bluray stuff partially out of FCP, and then I authored it in Encore. The FCP stuff is really limited and so is the Toast. Encore offers some nice simple solutions and the end result was pretty cool. Within 10 minutes of loading the software I was working with it really well... it's quite intuative and laid out kind of like DVDSP. I'm a mac based guy... and cheers

@ Ihart... Yes you got it. The client originally wanted to do a standard edit with a VO and make it maybe 60 seconds. Since I've done quite a lot of convention stuff and I know how the flow works.. I convinced them to do a visual only piece with lots of different content and have no VO. They said that people came and watched small part, the whole thing, and saw something different each time. It was a really big success and another booth had a one minute loop and it was kind of redundant. This 7 minute piece was on a constant loop but there's a good amount of stuff going on. Of course I'd like to have more but I put this whole thing together really quickly, and these are all friends of mine and not actors.. Sometimes it's easier not to include those variables... They do plan on doing a new edit with a VO and a little something with a host or something like that.. which means more work for me!!! lol. In this world it's all about repurposing content, making it applicable for one thing, then another and another...
Overall though I'm so happy with what this camera offers and that this is 99 percent what the camera shot, all handheld and just a blast too shoot with....

On a sidenote, last night I had a shoot with my HMC150 and although I loved that camera and it's shot a lot of good stuff for me, I really hated every second of shooting with it.. it's odd and funny but it's so true. Ther'es so many things that I like so much more about the GH2 and it's just hard to really get the same feel and connection. The GH2 seems more responsive with the overall ability to resolve an image, with the focus, with the ability to move and just be orgainic. I missed it every second and so did my back when I was done. It was 6 solid hours of handheld stuff without a break. If I were shooting with the gh2 it wouldn't have hurt the back at all... Not to slag the 150 cause it was an ENG kind of thing and it's good for that, but I for one have switched sides and don't plan on going back to the standard videocamera setup... Sidenote ended.
