Iphone 4 HD vs. the DVX100B for video. Which has the better video footage right out of the camera. My girlfriend upgraded to the Iphone 4. I discovered it had the
ability to shoot 720p. I played around with it and was blown away. Yes, it's the iphone but I can't believe what we can do these days with cellphones. How the heck do these nerds create this stuff?

Wow, the iPhone has 24p and XLR inputs? It really is a great camera, isn't it?

/snarky comments. It's been a rough day.

They might have an iPnone app for xlr inputs, dunno but the video is sweet for a cam phone.

i'm sorry, this thread will get out of control in a jiffy...to begin with, are you serious?

Considering that Apple is in the technology business and not the camera business, I find it hard to believe that they made that camera in-house, anyway. My money is on that it was outsourced. So that could be one way nerds come up with this stuff.

While the actual resolution is higher, the quality of the image on the DVX is miles and miles ahead of the iPhone 4. This coming from someone who has extensive use of both devices. The iPhone 4 is fine for home videos and stuff, nothing professional or serious.

I have a suggestion for you to try with the iPhone 4.0... Shake it slightly or move it side to side so that you may truly experience how bad the "Rolling Shutter" is on that phone. I think that will help you make your decision.

The iPhone 4 is the HD cam you will always have with you.

"I have an exceptional HD cam!!"

"Well quick let's use it!"

"Oh .... umm ... its at home"

Sure, when you have time to prep, break out the lights, get the reflectors, etc ......

Here's the thing…

Someone will make a film with the iPhone that we'll all look at and be amazed by. It's just a matter of time. That doesn't make it better or worse than the DVX, it will only mean that someone had a great concept, put in the effort to make it happen, and had the right people in front of and behind the camera.

This is true, but for overall functionality, the DVX100 is made to shoot video, the iPhone 4 is a phone that happens to shoot video.

Agreed, but the OP's question was which one delivers better footage straight out of the camera. While no one would argue about the ease of use and functionality of the DVX, if we're talking straight image quality, it's probably not as clear cut.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I have seen the rolling shutter. No, I don't think the Iphone 4 produces better video footage. Just wanted to see what you guys thought about the raw
footage coming out of the Iphone. Thanks!

That looked pretty good. You're right. That was an interesting bts clip as well.

But after seeing it and re-watching the short, I was hoping for more P.O.V. shots taking from the train engine, directly, while in that outside day-lit space. I know you didn't post for storytelling critique but in addition to being more interesting, it would have helped the camera from having to work so hard in low light situations.

Just to be clear. I had nothing to do with that film. I just saw it on Vimeo and shared it because people were talking about what the camera could and couldn't do.

Personally, though, I think it's pretty damn impressive for a cell phone camera (especially since they shot it after the phone had been out for less than a week).

No, I know you weren't associated with that film. And, I thought it was very impressive. I was just referring to the fact that you can see the camera struggle with the low light shots.

Not just shot on the iPhone, but also-
Edited on the iPhone (iMovie)
ADR recorded on the iPhone (in a closed car, then synced in iTunes and put back into iMovie).

The whole shebang on a cell phone... impressive.
