Iowa 500 Year Flood

In case you haven't heard, we're having a 500 year flood in Iowa right now.

I managed to get a few shots as I travelled the last road across town that wasn't under water. Since I made this, the number of city blocks under water has jumped from 438 to over 1300 city blocks. It's amazing to see this water coming at you and knowing that you can't do anything to stop it.

We're pretty much cut off right now without having to take a 280 mile detour to get to Iowa City which is only 30 miles away.

Anyway, here's the link: http://silverphoenixllc.com/movies/2008_flood.mov

Wow. I cannot imagine expiriencing that kind of devastation. You captured some excellent footage, and my heart goes out to you and every other Iowan. Best of luck and Godspeed.

That's some great footage there; I drive I-380 pretty regularly (as I suppose everyone in Cedar Rapids does) and a lot of those views are familiar to me.

We spent all day Wednesday loading equipment out of our office (located a block and a half from the river); filling two 26' trucks, five cargo vans, and who knows how many cars with computers, filing cabinets, and A/V equipment. I didn't see our building in any of n8ture's shots, but between his views of several buildings close to us and those on the local news, it has to be under about eight or nine feet of water. Still, that's just an office--I can't imagine what it must be like for those whose homes are the same situation.

Good luck with everything. My in-laws live outside of Keokuk and they're about to get the floodwaters via the river. They're actually down here at the moment and my father-in-law is heading back tomorrow. Fortunately, their farm is on high ground, but he might not even be able to get home with all the road closings. This is even worse than '93, at least for Iowa.
