Invention of necessity

When I used to race motorcycles, we had an axiom "Invention of necessity is a mother"... I've got one of those situations now...

I have a Panasonic HPX500 and an HVX200... I just bought a 2" finder for the 500, which is great, and would like to mount the old stock 500 finder on the HVX so it is a shoulder mount. I can make the mounting bracket easily, I've already designed it, but...

The 25 pin plug on the 500 finder is daunting, plus it is a 12v unit... My design for mounting it on the HVX includes using an Anton Bauer Gold Mount (which I already have, for when I use the HVX with a Red Rock adapter) using the "D" output for the finder...

So, what I would need is a plug/adapter that would output the signal from the camera to the finder (composite or S-Video?), and include a "D" plug for the Gold Mount...

I haven't been able to find anyone willing to try and build this adapter.. Anyone here know someone I can ask?

When I first read your post I thought "FUBAR!" but then I pulled my HPX viewfinder off and stuck it on my HVX and thought "hey, this is a pretty good idea." I have a Red Rock shoulder mount that I view as worthless without my Carrion monitor mounted to it. But the whole thing ends up weighing a ton and virtually impossible to carry around without a couple of AB bricks mounted two feet behind you as a lever to balance the load.

How about a local electronics repair shop to make the cable? There used to be talented people that knew how to use a soldering iron and read a schematic. You might find one living in a trailer back in the woods somewhere (or maybe that would be working in a sushi restaurant as a dishwasher in Monterey:huh:

Post pics if you can and let us know the results of your search. I haven't seen the pin out configuration of the viewfinder cable, but I'll take a look and see if anyone here can do it.

BTW, what kind of racing? I raced Ducati's and assorted Jap bikes on and off for thirty years. I sold my Duc 748R for my HPX and haven't looked back. I loved racing but buying tires every weekend I wanted to ride was getting old, and $5 gas just put me over the top. Not to mention racing against twenty year olds hell bent on being the next Rossi. One week shy of fifty and now I'm thinking I'd like to make it another thirty years or so...
