Intuitfocus HF-IF1 enables 'handsfree' follow-focus on DSLRs

This is old ?

Is it not true that

- the price bloated to multiple $k

and/or

-it never got to market

I think there are some posts on steadicamforum

It seems always to happen - the '$500 remote FF' is hyped and ends up costing $4k

The bottom line is good motors cost

Its kind of appealling - website not too clear on detail

On thing you want from a FF is to translate tiny lens move to a larger hand movement (if you have something like the 16-35)

HoFo is cheaper and Pete speaks english

I think I prefer belt to 08mod teeth - im not sure they (08mod teeth) handle lenses that extend when focussing - eg nikkor 55macro or 35-70 MF zoom

I also like the belt idea more! I just spoke to somebody who actually has one and used it: the quick change and the smoothness are supposed to be excellent. I might go visit him and check it out but the price is a bit too high! This is basically my preferred solution for now. Major problem is: you need a larger ext. monitor to actually be able to focus from distance and GH1 doesnt allow this. but one can use marking points.

belts are smooth (my manual FF is belt)

my only problem (with this system) is if I get in a situation where Im renting my kit to a production co or employing a professional focus puller one feels the need to have kit they understand - even if it not the best solution or if that production co want to use cineprimes that have built in gears

The BOM for a unit of this type is quite cheap

Arduino microcontroller <$30
Timing belt & pulley <$20
Quality Digital servo <$50
Project box and bits <$50

Of course having the arduino in there makes it possible to go wireless over USB and there is loads of free code for the arduino

I am guessing it wont be long before someone comes along with a how to DIY one for cheap.
