F3: Intro preview to Swahili music video

Cheers, I thought that might be the case. Any particular reason for the switch back? Was it just the pain of dealing with SLOG in 8-bit on the SxS cards?

I think highlight handling is better with slog since you get more compression of the high tones, but even cine gammas have reasonable compression with their curves, and can handle most situations I find.

I'm also shooting in mostly controlled environments with scenes that have low contrast ranges, so for those I don't find the benefits of slog.

As for 8-bit etc.. I find it fine so long as your not really pushing it in post but 10-bit offers much more flex.

I find SLOG to be better with almost ALL situations: better color, better range, etc.
(of course, I am pushing it to a 10-bit recorder) ;-)

Here's a before and after frame where I used cinegamma4. Given the final color/grade I decided to go with and fairly flat scene (with exception to the white fence seen through wire fence over artist's left shoulder) for this specific scene I can't see anything SLOG would have drastically improved over the cinegamma4 profile I used.

Keep in mind that shooting with SLOG requires you to shoot your grey pretty low at 38% and white around 70% which later will require you to push mid-tones and possibly even some high-tones up in post. PUSHing images in post increases image noise the more you push, whereas if you use cinegamma4 middle grey is high enough that you either won't need to move it much, or if anything you will PULLing it in post and hence descreasing image noise.
