Intregrating DVX 29.97fps, HVX P2 24fps and HVX FireStore 24fps into FCP

I'd like to know what frame rate I should integrate DVX footage streamed & captured through FireWire via FCP at 29.97fps, HVX p2 footage at 24fps and HVX firestore footage at 24fps in a FCP timeline.

In the firestore footage I see alot of duplicate frames and it's messing up my multi-cam. How do I mulitcam all three streams of footage in FCP 6?

Thanks!

Well... you wll have to choose either a 23.974 timeline or 29.98 timeline... Preferally the one with the majority of the footage... I have even had 30p footage on a 23.974 timeline and it looks fine.

You should have all the footage at the same framerate in your timeline in FCP. The best thing to do would be to convert the 29.97 footage to 24p so it will match up with the 24p HVX footage. You can do this with a program like DVFilm Maker or possibly Compressor.

Also, the duplicate frames you are seeing in the firestore footage maybe a pulldown. You should remove to get to 24p or have the firestore set to record without a pulldown being added. If you already have footage with the pulldown in it you can remove it using MXFX.

Best,
Andy

Well I forgot to add to my post that the FireStore footage has already been ingested and I swiped the FireStore too. So how can I then remove the duplicate frames from FireStore footage? Also in the FCP Browser window on the footage reads at 29.97. So wouldn't it be better to edit this all in 29.97? Even though the p2 footage was shot at 24p, it's still 29.97, right? So it theory what I am really asking how to i remove the duplicate frames from the FireStore footage but keep it at 29.97?

The problem with editing 24p footage that is in a 29.97/60i stream is that the pulldown cadence will change from shot to shot after edited. As long as you plan on having only interlaced viewings of the final edit you should be okay, but if you want to have a progressive viewing or even watching smoothly on your computer monitor you should remove the pulldowns. It's much easier to go from edited 24p back to 29.97 (with use of a 2:3 pulldown) then to go from 29.97 to 24p.

Another alternative is that you could edit everything at 29.97 and deinterlace to 30p however this might yield some motion problems.

Also, with repeat frames in the footage, the motion is never going to be entirely smooth.

So I have 3 clips (Standard Definition) all of the same event TRT 01:45:00;00
Clip 1
DVX captured on the fly with FCP at 29.97 (Camera Mode 24p)

Clip 2
HVX captured on p2 cards at 29.97 (Camera Mode 24p)

Clip 3
HVX captured on FireStore at 29.97 (Camera Mode 24p)

The FCP project reads all clips at 29.97 however clip 3 has duplicate frames and its hard to tell the same with clip 1 & 3.

What are my options to multi-cam and have sync audio with no drifting?

Thanks!
Carl
