GH2 INTRA GOP1 176M Hack = superb

i have a uhs-1 Extreme 30mb/s card. There is no problems. I repeat, no problems. I think a lot of the people who are having problems simply come down to a faulty card, which was most likely a fake. i purchased mine from an authorized dealer.

I purchased a Sandisk 30 MB/s from eBay, China dealer. It was probably a fake card, when I tested its speed, it had crazy drops in sustained performance.

So steer away from eBay when buying cards. Buy only from reputable sellers.

I tried the latest driftwood on the Sandisk 45mbs Extreme Pro 16gb and it worked great. I didn't have any corruption and playback worked fine. How many minutes is everyone getting with this patch? My display showed 12 min available. Is that accurate?

it's a variable bitrate codec, it won't be accurate no matter what it shows. you could get 12 or 24.

QUESTION about AQ settings here:

If we are at ALL i-FRAMES then does the AQ setting even matter for motion image quality anymore?
-OR-
Is the AQ function more about varying the bit rate and thus AQ=1, for example, would cause the the software to devote more bit-rate when motion is detected?

Thanks.

What lens are you using? It works fine with most cards if you are using a wider angle prime. Zoom in with a sharp lens like the 14-140mm and it will crash every time with any card.

the 14-42 i have will crash, although it gets about 20seconds in before it does. all my primes from 28-100 do not.

i think the 14-42 crashes because of its electronics. i'll see if i covering the contacts makes any difference.

I've ben testing the Transcend media class 10 32GB card and so far with 14-42 or with old Minolta 50mm glass all has been fine - no drops / freezes or anything. Longest clips are about 2 minutes so far... I'll set it and forget it tonight for 10 minute chunks... maybe I'll film clock with a sweeper second hand...

So it seems like clips over 4:30 seconds with this hack on a transcend SDHC 32GB class 10 card fail... not exactly at 4:30 and not every clip... but enough that it can not be trusted to mission critical work. Maybe I gotta get the other cards?
How long can you shoot with them?

Also for the guy who was asking it says 24 minutes of record time with a 32GB card.

The 14-140 doesn't crash with the same card either.

It crashes 100% of the time after about 8 seconds at 140mm, outside, with that card for me. It actually crashes for every card I have at 140mm when shooting outside at 140mm. 14mm it is rock solid with any card. Not once you zoom in though.

one of the guy's on personal-view mentions crashing when zooming. he has a patch that works pretty good around it. it's around 156mb and gop3, and gets consistent i-frames higher than driftwood's. i think his username is bkmcwd?

Maybe a silly question but how can you verify the hack was succesful? I applied the 176 QuantMeBaby patch. The firmware version stays the same (which is right) and I was able to record on a Sandisk Ultra II 15mb/s card, supposedly way too slow...

use cbrandin's stream parser. and yes Ultra II is too slow. under normal conditions, it might not crash; under heavy, high detail conditions, it will. trust me. had one, thought I was going to get away with it, and then blargg, crashed on me.

15MegaByte /second is (15x8=120) 120 MegaBit per second, way slower than the 176 MegaBit max data rate of the hack in question, so it is clear that in detailed scenes, it will crash with this card, and probably often.

Brilliant innovation!

is there anyway we could put together what AQ3 will do and will not do i.e. will do slow-mo except... will do 24p... but not...

I'm sure there are many that want to jump in and have some questions on whether it will have this or that...

Thanks. I found streamparser, got it to work, but have no idea how to interpret the numbers.

Stream: Max Speed = 187.656.100 bps
Mode = 1080/24pN
PCR Timing Interval = 0,095 seconds
Clip Time = 0:00:53,55
Average Total Bitrate = 61.258.490
Average Video Bitrate = 58.723.747
Average Audio Bitrate = 235.067
Average Other Bitrate = 2.299.675
Max GOP Size = 346.560 Bytes (2.772.480 bits)
Video Frame Size (Min/Ave/Max)= 216.000 / 312.445 / 346.560

What do these numbers tell me? (or you, rather...:-(
