FEATURE: Into the Woods (2011)

Well. I just started writing the script a few days ago, and as inspiration has been bashing me to death (and depriving me of my sleep), I ended up spending an entire night - the birds were chirping outside as I decided to shut down my laptop - doing the poster art.

I realize that it's very early in the process, and I really just wanted to show it off - and hopefully receive some feedback as well. Most of it was drawn by hand - which is why it took so long to make. :)

Here goes:

I will soon be updating this post with an information sheet. 'Til then I'd be happy to hear what you guys think. :)

Thanks,

Christian

You'd be guessing correctly. ;)

I don't want to say too much about the storyline yet, but it's going to be a two-part feature. The first half of the film will be dealing with one aspect of the story, and the second half will be dealing with a different one. However, there won't be any significant jumps back and forth in time - the narrative'll simply change it's focus from one subject to another.

The poster is sweet, but I will warn you that there is a famous musical by Stephen Sondheim called Into the Woods. Not that you can't use the same title or anything, but just wanted to warn you some people might be confused.

I'd rethink the title...

As someone said Soundheim's musical might indirectly hurt the tone you're going for. Nice poster, though!

Thanks to all for the comments! :)

I appreciate the input/concern. I did come across Sondheim's musical, when I was doing my research on the title, but I decided to keep it for the time being - as a working title, at least. :)

If I am ever to rename the project, it would probably be due to the number of productions that have carried the title after the running of Sondheim's 'Into the Woods'.. But then again -- It's still very early in the process and nothing has been set in stone just yet. ;)

Love the graphic style, it reminds me of a book cover, it has a very fantasy kind of vibe that I like a lot. The colors are great, I love bold colors in horror and darker stories.. its refreshing to see, would be cool if the visual approach of the movie was like a giallo with super saturated colors. Man i'd love to see a mysterious forest that actually glows with a sickly green that could be cool.

Look forward to seeing more!

Yes very cool. The poster really grabs you. If I saw that in blockbuster (lol) I'm pick up the movie and check it out.

Thanks. :)

Part of my plan was actually to have the brighter parts of the colour scheme represent the danger that, as it turns out, is lurking within these woods. In nature, the most dangerous and/or poisonous forms of life - be it an animal or a type of plant - are often the ones that the most colourful. So rather than just sticking with the dirty, desaturated look that has become a common trait with a lot of films of this genre - I figured that an approach like this would be far more interesting -- as long as it's not overdone, of course. :)

Not my genre and can't say why but I really like this somehow.

Just playing, but how about combining the two. The upper left title reverse reflects at lower right. Love the Title's hand drawn font look. Colors are fantastic. Lower right title crosses the horizon line - can't decide if it detracts or adds punch . . .

Interesting study on artistic errors drawing attention - which is what we want - right ? ? ?

Says it all.

Great job.

I get a good Evil Dead vibe from the poster. And I'm the biggest Evil Dead fan there is. If you need help with anything, I'd love to offer what ever I can over here in Western Canada.

When I sat down and did this poster, I had a very clear idea of what it was going to look like. I spent quite a few hours working on some of the details - re-doing a few of the hand-drawn elements (the trees, mostly), the placement of the title, etc. - so yes, everything in it looks the way it was intended to. ;)

Evil Dead.. Rocks..!!

And I'll keep that offer in mind. Thank you. :)

Everything's fine so far. :)

I'm still working on the script. The storyline and the bloodshed - and a lot of the shots even - have all been figured out.. So basically, all that's left is to write it.

I am really, really excited about this project. And I can't wait 'til we begin shooting. :)

I have talked to a couple, and I do have a few in mind for some of the parts. However, I am still in the process of learning who my characters really are. So I probably won't be making any final decisions just yet. :)

Update.. Sort of:

I've been working really hard on the script lately, and it's going great.. I just finished work on the 1st act of the film. That's the first 47 pages.. And it's about time now that I get started on the second half. :)

I'm still very much excited about this. The script has begun to absorb me. Gradually. Sort of.. And every time I make it to one of the scarier parts, my hands start shaking as I type in the letters. Suppose it means that things are moving in the right direction.. :)

Cheers,

Christian
