Interviews with the HVX200a...lens & monitor recommendation?

I've been hired on to do some higher end interviews with my HVX-200a. In the past when I've done interviews, I don't really get as much DOF as I would like. Probably because the lens on the HVX is so wide.

Would you recommend a lens for better DOF? I'm not looking to go up to an adapter, but wondering about some of the cheaper lenses out there.

Also, up until now, I've been shooting with the standard flip out LCD screen. I would like to be able to see more detail, as well as for the client to be able to see how things look. What on-camera monitors would you suggest?

youre not going to achieve the DOF youre looking for with anything other an than a 35mm adapter.

best suggestion is to get as far away as you can from the subject and open up the iris

the smallHD dp1 (dp1x) is about the best and biggest HD monitor you'll find for under $2000 (and its way, WAY under $2000)
its a little big (IMO) to use as an on-camera monitor. but it works great on a stand. and its big enough to invoice as a line item as a client comfort monitor

Can the DP1X fit any where else on the camera other than the hot shoe?
it doesnt come with any mounting hardware. so you'll have to buy a third-party shoe mount anyway.

but yes, you can also use that threaded hole on top of the 170s handle. though i cant see that being any better then the shoe - unless your shoe is already being used.

i keep an old manfrotto still photo tripod to use for a stand. and i also have a manfrotto clamp/gooseneck that i use to camp it onto my shooting tripod legs

the following thread talks a little bit about this:

+1 for SmallHD.

Picked up the DP1x and it is a great value for all it does. Not only is it a great monitor, but for support they get an A+ !

I just purchased their unit and had a couple problems come up. The customer support is beyond fantastic. Had some issues with batteries, they sent me out a couple new ones fast, had an issue with the full size image and an engineer walked me through it (we also did video chat, pretty cool).

I was going to buy the $200 lilliput monitor and I'm glad I didn't. Just try getting that kind of service from China!

After doing my research and talking around, I was sold on the DP1x, and ordered it. I have to say, the level of customer service is awesome! I haven't been able to see the monitor yet since I'm on the road this weekend, but can't wait to see it tomorrow when I get home.

Special thanks goes out to everyone at SmallHD. You went beyond the call of duty, and I very much appreciate it!
