interval recording

Is it true that panasonic dropped the interval record function in the Dvx100B? I'm considering upgrading but I use that function quite a bit.

Can anyone clarify for me?

It was left out, I'm guessing, because it's not really an efficient mechanism for doing interval recording. You can do a better job with an inexpensive digital camera. In fact, a digital camera, a computer, and some interval recording software is probably the best setup for doing interval recording. There's some good info on how and why on this board if you do a search.

So, panasonic probably looked at features and found that there were others that were more important. And the interval recording was dropped.

As I understand it, in the move to RoHS compliance, they needed to use a new tape drive mechanism that didn't use lead in the manufacturing process. The new mechanism doesn't support interval recording, so it was a feature that was dropped. I could be dead wrong about this, but this is how I understand it.
