Interval Recording Possibility through Firmware?

Hi Guys,

Have plan to buy HMC151 this month.

Well, something more is missing in HMC from HVX200? Yes, Interval Rec.

Just wondering! Why did they remove this function at the first place?
Even today's HDVs can do that on Tape....:Drogar-Sick(DBG):

Anyways, Is there any possibility of adding 'Interval Rec.' function in future firmware updates of HMC150?

I would never expect them to add any functions through firmware updates. No new functionality was added to the hvx200 in the three years it's been out.

I mean, who knows, they might surprise us, but I wouldn't count on it. Buy the product for what it *is*, not for what you hope it might become someday.

I was guessing there was something about the difference in codecs--DVCProHD=individual frames vs AVCCAM = long GOP. Yeah, I know Sony does it with mpeg but there might be something in the implementation.

I just got me a HMC. I really wanted the HPX for the TL feature. But I decided what I really NEEDED was waveform and pre-rec. So I went with the HMC.

No, in fact it has many less features than even HMC150.

According to the Panasonic press release describing the HMC40 -- it DOES HAVE "interval recording."

PANASONIC:
"The camera’s 2.7-inch LCD monitor offers simple touch-panel operation and access to various solid-state recording functions such as pre-record, interval recording, shot marker and metadata capture. "

The hmc40 also takes stills, so there is a chance the interval recording mode is coming from that feature.

I do believe that it would be possible to do interval recording and variable frame rates with AVCHD, but I would guess that the chips in the 150 were designed to run in real-time frame rates.

You can record long clips with the HMC and accelerate it in post.

At 6mb/s or 13mb/s, it is even much longer! It is a workaround.
