interval recording-exposure concerns

Hey guys,

I'm planning on doing some time-lapse photography of a cityscape as the sun goes down and the city lights come on. I've never used this feature on the DVX100a and I was wondering if anybody had some tips they could give me. Right off the bat though, I'm worried about how I'm going to make the exposure change look smooth as the sun goes down. I think I'm going to put the camera in ON mode and shoot in 30p. Any advice is very very appreciated.

Thanks.

Yah, I know what youre talking about with the exposure concerns. So far, Ive simply shot some daytime time lapse. But I had visited a guy in Vancouver, who does time lapse footage, and he suggests that you simply put the camera on auto. Try ramping up your exposure as the footage is shot, and you risk exposing in such a manner as to show a big difference as you capture the footage.

One thing to do is make sure you shoot in 720p. I'm a bit6 miffed that the HVX only shoots in VIDEO instead of FILM in the camera settings (and let the Panasonic rep know about my displeasure), but move it to VIDEO, play with your chroma settings to give you a natural setting, and fart around with the gamma, try using CINE-LIKE (more people like the D over the V). Shooting cinelike tends to give your shooting a more film-like effect.

Save your scene files, too. Use a cheap SD card (they don't have to be big; a 32MB or even 16MB card will save everything) so you can save your user settings. You may even want to create a folder to drop your favorite camera settings to use them later, too.
