Interval recording and shutter speeds

Hi all,

Just wondering...

When doing interval recording at every 10secs and every 30secs (mostly for skyline/cloud stuff) what would the optimal shutter settings be to ensure as smooth a look as possible? WHen doing timelapse with a dslr I was always told to drag the shutter to at least a second to get some motion blur and movement in the frames. Is it possible to have the shutter open for a second on the AF101?

Thanks for any advice.

Yep that's what I thought, which is a shame. Ah well. Anyone have any other tips?

Here's a tiny test I did sticking the camera out of my window.

Well the "optimal" setting would of course be a 180 degree shutter, so at 1 shot every 30 seconds that's a 15 second exposure. The AF100 apparently can't do that (I have a GH2) but it'd be a pain anyway because you'd really be stacking on the ND filters - and unless the object is moving really fast it might not even be worth worrying about the 180 degree shutter rule at all. But certainly for fast-moving scenes blur really makes it look like a timelapse and not just sped-up video.

yeah it's a shame.... Is this a hardware limitation do you think, or something that could be added at a later date, if say someone kidnapped the dev team's loved ons and forced them to add new features in a firmware update?

Err... No reason... ;)
