Interval Mode/Intervalometer on D800

Been trying out the Interval shooting mode for Timelapse, there is a limit of 999 (single) shots that can be taken so with out using the 'Timelapse' shooting mode is the only other solution to attach an external intervalometer? Any suggestions for a good compatible one for my D800?

Any intervalometer with a Nikon 10-pin connector should work with the D800. Nikon makes one, and there are many 3rd party devices available on eBay.

This is a very simple function to design and implement, so I would not be afraid of purchasing a low-cost unit.
