interpretation setting - wtf

i have a quick question...

I have captured 24PA footage in premiere. When i import my timeline into AE... the footage in the project bin reads as 29.97. When I interpretate the footage and say "guess"... a few of the clips will give me wwwsw and others will be wwsww or wwwws?!? Shouldnt all the clips be the same setting? Why does it give a different pulldown choice from clip to clip? All the footage came from the same tape that was shot on the DVX - 24PA mode.

Whats the proper "interpretation" setting for 24PA footage?!?

From everything I have read, the pulldown for 24pA is WWSWW. And 24p is WSSWW.

Now why in the hell Adobe can't just call them 2:3:3:2 and 2:3 (24pA and 24p respectfully) is beyond me.

I ran into that problem few weeks ago. Just ended up using whatever interpretation setting AE guessed. When mixed together in a 24p Premiere timeline I couldn't detect any difference in the motion. All looks like 23.98 fps.

Even though ive had different "guess pulldown" combinations for different clips... Its ok to have a mix of different of pulldowns on the timeline?

Or can i apply one pulldown like "24pA is WWSWW" and COPY it all to the clips???

That would depend on the footage. If I shot everything 24pA, I would want to have the pulldowns all be the same. If you play around in the Interpret Footage window you will find that different pulldowns often look the same, untill you start going frame by frame. Then you will begin to see oddities and blended frames.

If some of your 24pA is not coming up WWSWW, I would would force those into that format, unless after you looked at it, you saw errors.

Again, the 2:3:3:2 pulldown for 24pA from what I have read and used is WWSWW. But, if you still have problems or concerns, and if Premiere is correctly interpreting the footage, export what you need to tweak to AE as a seperate file. If you have an entire project of enough length that makes exporting not an option, go with the WWSWW for all of you clips, regardless of what the initial interpretation is.

Why is Adobe AE interpeting the 24pA footage with a 3:2 pulldown anyway? Why not just interpret it as 23.976. I noticed that on Andrew Kramer's site when he works with 24p footage, his is interpreted as 23.976 with no pulldowns. I just imported a Premiere project into AE and had the same thing happen. I noticed some wierd interlacing and artifacting when I exported out to Quicktime uncompressed. Has anyone else had this issue?
