Internal Recording to P2

I would like to record from a FCP timeline, or a DV deck to P2 card. I've tried to follow the manual but haven't had any results. I can record from FCP to the HVX200's DV deck just fine. Would anyone be so kind as to help me through the steps to do so?

Thanks,

David James

I am quite sure you can only record to P2 from the camera itself and not from any external means. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

You can definitely record to P2 through the firewire inputs. Don't know exactly how to do it in FCP; I presume you just have to make sure that you've matched your sequence settings to be exactly what your camera settings are, and you can't set the P2 camera to "720pN" because the firewire is disabled in pN mode.

Go to MCR mode, turn the thumbnails off, and it will be in firewire input mode. If your firewire output setting on FCP matches, you should see the image on your LCD screen. Then you just press the two record buttons together to record the incoming firewire stream.

I successfully wrote an 8 min HD timeline using 'Print to Video' inside of Final Cut. Apple has documentation on it - search 'Final Cut Pro 7 Professional Formats and Workflows' it's in the working with Panasonic P2 card section. It says something about using built in firewire port of the computer only.
