intermittent 'groaning' noise

hi all,

my new hpx170 makes this very soft, but noticeable intermittent mechanical sounding 'groaning' noise...if i put my ear to the lens shade, i can hear it pretty distinctly.

i was wondering if anybody else has this? is it normal?

i'm afraid that if i have a sennheiser attached to camera that it will pick up.

thanks for any input.

Mine does that when the autofocus is on. (I hardly ever use autofocus.)

yeah, i've read that auto may cause it...but i have my camera set on manual everything/OIS on.

is everybody else's HVX/HPX completely silent?

Mine did that when I first got it, but after a while it stopped doing it. I'm not too sure what causes it, but I think it only happened when I had the OIS on. I don't really recall.

Oops--replied too fast, not realizing this thread is about the HPX, not the HVX. (My just-slightly-noisy-while-autofocus-is-on camera is the HVX200, original model.)
