Intermittent freezing video, while audio goes on...

Hi there.

I've imported video from the P2 card that was on a Lacie hard drive. I used the import from Panasonic P2 command and all seemed well.

When I go to play my video clips, I get long video freezes while the audio still plays on. The video seems to eventually catch up to itself. When I put the clips in the timeline, same thing.

I'm using a 400 speed firewire connection to the lacie drive. FCP 5.1.4, a black macbook, processor 2.16 Ghz intel core 2 Duo, memory 1 gig 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRam

Might it just be that my system is just too slow to handle the HD (720x960) DVCPro 720p60?? What else might it be?

Up the RAM to 2GB.

It can also happen if your video device (camera or deck) is on the same FW bus as the drive... which on a Macbook is the way it is.

I didn't even have a camera or deck connected...

Thanks for the tip on the RAM. Hopefully that's all it is.

Too slow system specs- move up to a MacBook Pro.

Somethings definitely not right. A single stream of DVCPro HD can be played back on a G4 laptop. How full is the HDD you are using and do you have another external HDD you can use to see if you get the same problem.
