intermittant firewire disconnect issue

in keeping with the recent rash of various firewire issues...

i have an ongoing issue connecting my hpx170 to my octocore macpro.

the first time i connect my camera via firewire, it works fine. the next few times (following what has been successful in the past) it wont get beyond the disconnect status. after 3 or 4 attempts, it usually connects.

anyone else having this problem?

my procedure is:

1 camera off (with card inside)
2 connect firewire cable
3 power on camera, wait for card to be recognized in cam mode
4 switch to mcr mode. wait a few seconds again.
5 hold mcr button until 1394 screen appears
6 status switches from disconnect to connect
7 transfer footage
8 eject p2 icon. wait a few seconds
9 power camera down.
10 eject card and replace with next one
11 return to step 3

12 FAIL

i have tried unplugging the cable at both ends. changing cables, etc. and the problem persists...

any thoughts?

same thing is happening for me. first attempt fine. next 3+ it goes directly to disconnect. weird. tried three different fire wire cables. arg

glad to hear its not just me! - i think we may have uncovered another 170 glitch...
luckily i have an old powerbook g4 around that works flawlessly every time.

so, solo - if you power down your computer do you get 1st time connectivity again?
