Interesting listing for DVX

Lucky Duck
So I stumbled upon this store on the Web on my fruitless search to find a decent, high-quality teleconverter for the DVX100A.

I'm impressed with the amount of information they actually give about the camera but if you scroll down to the recommended accessories on the bottom of the page, you will see a teleconverter lens that is 46mm!

Man, could this be a cheap way to get more zoom power on the DVX?!!!   ::) I think not.

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

I bought my camera from that company and will never buy anything from them again. They took forever to ship and tried endlessly to sell me additional crap accessories.

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

Sounds to me like the product you bought was gray market. Seems to be the trend with businesses like that. Forcing accessories because that is how they make a profit. Rude customer service. Making you call them. Poor shipping and credit card service. Read the reviews for sites like these... they sell items for very cheap and it may SEEM like a good deal... but isn't. No USA warranty, battery, or charger (all have to be bought seperately) and imported from somewhere other than the USA.

Also, notice that on the site it mentions nothing about 1.) a warranty and 2.) what comes with the camera. I'm suspicious about them.

Hey

I'm about to purchase a DVX for 2999bucks(before tax). Sounds like a good price, too good. So now I'm hearing in this forum that sometimes cheap isnt better.
Anyone here ever heard or bought from Cameras Unlimited or Shipping Unlimited?

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

Bad idea....Check resellerratings.com...will answer all your questions on buying from the internet. If you find a company too new to rate..or has a small amount of reviews check if they are a authorized panasonic dealer..very important..can't stress that enough. USA Warranty will save your bacon if your DVX has a problem. Check out EVSOnline.com..they have a banner at the top of the screen and sponsor this site. If you register with DVXuser..I believe there is a discount off the retail price.

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

Yeah, but watch that "USA Warranty" wording... the liars, cheats, and scumbucket dealers out there will brag that their cameras offer a "USA" warranty... but NOT the manufacturer's warranty! They'll offer some useless in-store warranty and claim that "hey, we're in the USA so that makes it a USA warranty, right?"

Liars, cheats and scumbuckets. Only buy from an authorized dealer if you want to have the best shot at not getting cheated.

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

Whatever you do, stay away from a place called SaferSeas Video Supply Depot. I waited 5 weeks and never got the camera. Contant delay tactics until they finally gave me a refund.

Re: Interesting listing for DVX

SaferSeas ticked me off as well. I live about 90 min's from them. I called them before I made the drive to see if they had the anny adapter in stock. Guy leaves the phone, comes back and says, Sure do. So I hop in my car and drive on over...

Needless to say I don't have the anamorphic adapter because... well, neither did they. I asked the guy, "What did you do when you left the phone?" He said he's not sure.

Then to top it off they wouldn't sell me a floor model. They had two set-up. I asked the manager if was in business to sell products or just look good. He said they wouldn't sell, thus avoiding my question.... but <whisper> I think I know the answer!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I ran into the same warranty scam trying to make a purchase on line.

I tried to find a reputable online dealer for several days, calling over a dozen dealers, trying my best to save a few hundred dollars. Every one was running some kind of scam. Several of the dealers, despite having different 800/888 numbers and prices, all funneled through the same place -- same holding music, even same person answering the phone. I imagined him sitting in a garage somewhere, bilking customers for a percentage of his sales.

A few of the more common scams:

1) No manufacturer warranty included. Warranty costs several hundred extra dollars.

2) Absolutely not one single factory accessory. No battery, strap, nothing. To get the accessories: hundreds of extra dollars.

3) Yes, warranty and accessories are included. Yes, the item is in stock. So you make the purchase. They get your card number. "One moment please while I get you a purchase order number. [pause]Oh, I'm sorry, the computer that issues the PO number says we're out. But we have the same camera with a bunch of extra accessories that you're going to have to purchase anyway [he lists a long list of cheap crap] and it's only $3995!"
