Interesting Issue: Self AWB

Guys,

I was performing some tests on my kitchen tap. The background of the tap (the wall) is light beige (off-white)... and when i was shooting, i noticed that the color of the background kept changing. I am assuming that the camera was automatically performing white balancing.
Have you guys noticed this before? How do i fix this?

Check the links and you'll know what i'm talking about.

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

Did you try manual white balance using a white card or something white just in front of the tap...I think the AWB gets confused by the reflections on the tap itself.

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

Looks like what I saw in my kitchen under fluorescent lighting. You may be seeing the 60Hz flicker phasing in and out if you have this lighting too. Try using a different shutter speed?

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

Was there a window with daylight bleeding thru? You have 2 different color light sources here. Manual white balance and this will go away. :D

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

There was a flouroscent light. No outside light was coming in cuz i took it late at night.
Are you saying manual balancing will do away with the issue?

No. Search on "shutter speed and fluorescent." There's a default scene file for fluorescent (3 or 4?), try that.

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

I had the EXACT same problem. I turned off ATW (under the menu options) and it seemed to work fine after that. Could that be right, or am I mistaken?

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

If you have it in ATW mode, the camera will continually adjust in search of the proper white balance. Is that what you're talking about? Read about it in Barry's book. Just do it manually.

Re: Interesting Issue: Self AWB

Manual WB setting will not solve this problem. It can only worsen it.
