Interesting Article

I thought the article was very poorly written. I'm not loyal to any particular brand, however, I do have an opinion on some. That aside, if the majority of broadcast content is 720P as stated in the video then the camera's should be compared at 720P, not at 2k which is above 1080P. At the end of the day the difference between 720 and 1080 isn't even that big of a deal unless you have a really large television or sitting very close. The video shows the difference in resolution but in the real world it really doesn't make that big of a difference and is of course only one small factor of why you would use a camera (ergonomics, UI, feature set, color science, dynamic range, frame rate, etc.)

Another question to ask is how much broadcast content is actually from cameras like the GH4 and 5D III? The majority of these cameras are used for videos that are not being broadcasted but rather being shown online. That being said, even if a camera like the GH4 is sharper and better than the 5D III for broadcast that doesn't necessarily make any difference for purpose these camera's are usually meant for. It's like saying a Lamborghini outperforms a Ferrari offroad so it's a better car for the racetrack.

Just for the record, I own a Sony fS7, Canon 5D II and have owned a BMPCC. There is a difference in how these cameras resolve 1080P but for the majority of work I produce the difference is nowhere near significant enough to allow that be a determining factor as to which camera I use for a project.

and comparing 200% to 77%? Ehm.......... of course perceived and actual sharpness will look way better on the GH4. Sigh.

resolution, resolution, resolution, and sharpness, the only two elements of a high quality image...

obviously...

Technically, maybe, as higher res is typically built on more advanced tech.
Otherwise, not so, let alone obviously.
There is a lens filter whose special purpose is to reduce sharpness.
A bride can hardly love a high-res, sharp image that essentially tells every pore on her face.
