Interested in an Australian PAL GH1 for $1999?

Okay, contrary to my previous posts about settling with my GH1, I'm thinking of selling my GH1. There are a few reasons but the main one being the photographer within me can't seem to console the EVF. It just doesn't feel right to me. I guess I'm a photographer at heart with a dappled interest in video.

Anyway, I have an Australian PAL GH1 that I am very seriously thinking of selling and just wanted to see if anyone was interested.

It was bought early August and has hardly been used. It has been out of the house literally only about twice. For all intents and purposes it's condition is "as new". I even kept the box!

Included in the price (besides everything that usually comes with the camera) would be a two Panasonic SD cards (12 GB and 4 GB) and a UV filter that I bought to protect the lens.

So, anyone interested?

(NB: I'm still not completely decided on selling it so I might withdraw this thread)

Australian dollars, not including postage.

However, rather than being hesitant to let it go, I would be very willing to let it go for $2100.

Whats your location and how does the warranty card work if its already been filled out? i dunno what im talking about..ha.

I'm just nibbling at the moment. They have dropped in price a lot here which is a shame for you. They are now floating around the 2.3k mark now.

I'm in Adelaide. The warranty card hasn't even been filled out yet (I'm lazy with that kind of thing) so that shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, they have dropped in price a bit, which is a pain, but the there is probably $100+ worth of extras here, too, to sweeten the deal.

Why is that OZ and Europe get hammered on the price while we in the USA and Japan (understandable) get it cheaper for the same device. Is it taxes or just ripping you off? Just wondering what people think.

Taxes, shipping and cost of marketing I believe.

Especially in the UK, the cost of marketing is very high because marketing idiots are paid very highly :) Compared to China for instance, even the cleaner in the marketing broom cupboard is paid highly in London.

Exchange rates may also play into it a little, but what confuses me is that when the GBP was at it's peak against the Yen, the GH1 would cost the equivalent of £500 in Japan but would cost £1200 in the UK. That's some serious mark up going on, Panasonic.

I think it has something to do with the bigger market share. US is the biggest market for cameras and hence they can sell lot more cameras and make less on individual items but their overall profit is lot more than they can sell in smaller markets at higher price...

yeah i think its more market share and mark up i recon. Heck even taiwan hasn't had a release of it yet and they're getting the GF1 before the GH1. go figure.

If you were in Melb I would seriously consider but I'm quite paranoid about sending wads of cash over for interstate sales...lol I also wear a foil hat:grin:

Have you noticed the gh1 hasn't been getting the buzz here that other countries get? They sure aren't marketing it well here that's for sure.

You're from Melbourne? I'm jealous... I occasionally fly to Melbourne to catch bands that don't come to Adelaide (so, all of the good ones, really). Great city.

Do you use Paypal? If so we could go that route for your peace of mind.

I might set up an eBay listing so you and other people that might be interested can look at it in a more official listing.

Don't stop wearing them foil hats! Can't let the aliens be controlling our brains now, can we?

ha yeah we take it for granted here in melb. Friends and I were helping a mate run an event in Brisbane for some american dancers and the folks at brissy say they never get big acts too. Events always get canceled so their like meh when something big comes cause they expect it to get canceled and don't bother which is funny cause then the organisers says there's not enough interest and the vicous cycle begins all over gain.

I just visited a mate in a camera store and had a play with a g1 cause the last gh1 just got sold. Threw my zeiss on it and was pretty impressed...such a small sucker too. Waiting on him to get back to me with a price so we'll see how we go.

Sounds like your leaning towards selling it now..ha
