Interest in RENTING an Iscorama or other anamorphic lenses?

Any interest in renting anamorphic lenses here on our forum? I have a bunch of them and they are itching to work. I don't use them nearly enough. I'll be selling some and was wondering if there would be interest here renting them? (One in particular is the 1.5x Iscorama w/matching 50mm F2.8)

EDIT: Same as last post:

Absolutely I think there would be interest. My next short I want to shoot anamorphic for sure, are you in the LA area?

I'm in Utah ATrain.

Here's what I'm thinking so far. Help me out here guys....I'm not sure what would work....so chime in for what would work for everyone.

We'd use some sort of escrow system where the person renting it would basically "buy" the lens at a VERY inflated rate. (High enough that they wouldn't be tempted to keep it.) For our user base here, I was thinking that we'd rent for 1 month time frames, at exceptional rates. The person would be mailed the lens at the inflated purchase price....the money kept in an escrow...that month would go by, then, they'd ship it back here to Utah. The money in escrow would then be returned to the user minus the rental rate. Done.

Right now, I'm thinking 500 for one month with an Iscorama setup. Iscorama 50mm f2.8, Nikon F1.8, Diopters +1, +2, +4, +10, and Iscorama 1.5x anamorphic lens.

(I have some other setups, but let's just start the discussions here)

So....give me some input DVXUsers! If this is TOTALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION...or just PLAIN UNDESIRABLE....let me know. I'm just thinking out loud here, so, let me know. How's that rate? Too low? Too high? How's that time frame? Too long? Too short? Let me know what you're thinking!

Thanks Guys!

Yes the shipping does pose a problem. I don't see the rate being unreasonable and a month would work for me, down the line you may want to insure the lens and offer shorter time periods for rental, but I think you are on the right track.

That rate is very fair.. heck, go to any camera store and daily or weekly rates are quite ridiculous. 500 for a month is a bargain..but fair, since you are independent.

As for you selling...I am looking for an Iscorama 36 to buy. I have my Isco 42 on ebay right now and selling it to replace it with a 36.

More interested in the true "36", the one that actually says 36 on it with a larger rear element; but will also seriously consider a "serial number" Isco 36, since the "36" ones are rare......if you have one willing to sell email me: edgarmaguyon@hotmail.com :)

This is a good idea... I have an Iscorama that gets neglected when work piles up. I wouldn't mind renting it to interested Chicago-area DVX'ers, but I'm just concerned about someone not taking care of it, or deciding not to return it... but the inflated deposit is definitely a good idea, especially with these things topping $2500 on ebay.

HHL,

like other users I am very interested in this rental opportunity. I am shooting at end of this month. I see this post is from August 2009, and now its September 2010, but please message me if you are still considering renting out your setup.

I am interested in knowing what you have. I am interested in buying or renting any I can get my hands on immediately.

I honestly have always wondered what's up with anamorphic lenses and digital filmmaking. With film, my guess is that anamorphic lenses were used because you could stretch the quality of film through a projector in a nearly lossless way if you strictly had to use 4:3 film to film the movie with, because it doesn't deal with pixels, but with digital filmmaking, wouldn't this be a complex/risky process? Or does it turn out good in the end?

And what exactly is the purpose, though? Is it so that 2K or wider can be used from 1080P aspect ratios?

Anamorphic was originally intended to use with standard 4x3 film cameras. (That's why TV was 4x3 untill HD came along, it mimiced theatrical film in ratio). When TV started having an effect on ticket sales (sound familiar?) studios responded by shooting in wide screen. New camera's were developed, while anamorphic helped extend the life of existing equipment. Soon though, they became popular for their aesthetic qualites, and are still prized for that same reason, regardless of whether you are shooting film or digital. Just like 24fps was a cost based decision that morphed into an artistic preference. BTW if this all sounds like the arguments studios are using to shoot 3D, that's because it is. It's deja vu all over again. I wonder what they will do when affordable 4K enters the home?

Hey Guys! I have added some more horses to the stable....including another Iscorama 36. :) I'll post some descriptions later. Here is some footage shot (not by me)...but by another film maker with these lenses. (Hypergonar)

:)

Hey Guys! Do me a favor on the Hypergonar footage above. I'm trying to get feedback on how interested people would be in renting one of these? I have a WHOLE GAGGLE of them, and I'm just trying to rig them out for rental. I'm just not sure if anyone is interested. If you search for footage on this lens....it's very rare. Anywho...just let me know. :) As always, it would be a VERY affordable rate...(like 400 per month.) :)

Awesome looking lens, HHL!

Sounds like I'm going to have to rig one out in the next couple of weeks and send it to you for with no rental fee. :)
It would be nice to see what a MASTER could do with it. :)
There's only one problem....when I shot with mine about 1 year ago....it was tough to work with. You can see that once it's in focus...the results are BREATH TAKING. (IMHO) So...let me know and I'll hook you up! :) I only ask that you share the beauty of your footage and any lessons learned with the good people of this forum. Let me know if that sounds interesting to you? :)
Mad love to DVXUsers everywhere!

ps....early findings last year from me.... :) http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?196822-Anamorphic-Shootout&p=1876228&viewfull=1#post1876228
