Intercutting 720p24 + 480p23.976 in Final Cut Pro 6??

Someone began a similar thread, but I have the additional issue of needing to re-scale 16:9 standard-definition footage shot progressive at 23.976 with 2:3:3:2 pulldown. Here's what I'm working with:

1. Nikon D90 24p 720 footage.
2. Sony DSR450 23.976p 480 2:3:3:2 16:9 SD DV footage.
3. Apple Final Cut Pro 6.

What do I do?

That's tough. why don't you take your DV stuff to compressor and make some tests? Compressor converts frame rates quite well, and can make 24p from 23.976. It should be capable of a good upconvertion and aspect ratio correction too.

So you took the plunge and got one? Are you happy with it?

BTW, great to see some old timers again around these boards! :D

Good to see you too, Taubkin! That makes sense. Upscale and frame-rate convert in Compressor . . . I went all-Mac a couple months ago and just bought Final Cut Studio 2 and Shake, though I haven't installed either yet. Did you know that the academic version of Shake 4.1 is only $249!!! So, I was waiting for the unbundled D90s to start shipping. Just got my D90 two days ago. After some hard-reckoning of some of its shortcomings, I really love it!

So, I've been looking at my D90 footage on my 52" Sharp LCD (which looks awesome, coming straight out of the Mac's DVI port), and although there's a bit more color aliasing than I'd like, I have to say, the image quality is very satisfying, warts and all. The colorimetry and highlight compression really wins out over traditional video cameras, IMO, and the ability to use all my fast Nikon lenses is a joy beyond compare. Certainly, it's no RED ONE, but it's close enough for now.

I'm so thorn into getting one right now... Specs seem all wrong, but the images are mind-boggling! Glad to hear it's pleasing some "demanding costumers"! :D

You MUST install your FCS 2 suite. There are incredible tools in there! Once you learn to use color, you start to understand how powerful this version of the studio has become.

And speaking of RED ONE, we now have full native support for R3d files in Final Cut Studio!

Man, post some D90 footage for us!
