GH2 Intelligent Resolution testing

I thought I'd investigate the Intelligent Resolution feature of the GH2 (p. 122 manual) with some camera tests. So far I've not been able to find much on Vimeo or, indeed, this site about the feature. Before doing some camera tests, has anyone had any experience with IR that they'd like to share? The claims about the feature from Panasonic are, as one might expect, extraordinary. So far, I've been using the camera with IR off.

I'd be interested in your testings. The question I asked myself is if IR can handle moving images naturally, I would imagine that there'd be 'jumps' in sharpness and detail processing or moments of camera movement when there's motion blur. For stills I gues it works fine, for video I can't imagine it not messing up some things.

I had a similar question a couple of weeks back and asked in the DPREVIEW forum. A few posters said they used both iR and iD and that it helped. I have since turned them on and perhaps the great fireworks photos and video clips I got were helped by these settings. I think the iR setting is changed for video regardless of what is set at, if you read the camera manual it describes how it is handled. Here is a fireworks photo using the iR and iD at max setting to give an idea (camera on tripod, and some processing in LR)P1010022.jpg

Intelligent resolution doesn't really affect the picture or video that much. I feel that it has its most appealing affect when it is set to EX(Extended) mode for stills. However, I don't recommend using it for videos as it produces a lot of ringing in the edges.

Luckily the EX mode only works for stills and it shuts off or resets to its lowest levels when you record a video in EX mode. I typically record in EX mode for the times when I am shooting stills+video and I turn it off when I shoot in video only modes.

I have done testing with all of the IR modes for videos and stills with a resolution chart. It really doesn't look good for video mode with the resolution chart.
