Insuring a DVX100/other gear...

...is this possible? I'm guessing not, but I wanted to check to see if anyone knew of any companies that would insure gear. Specifically, I would want the insurance to cover theft and equipment confiscation/damage by authorities outside of the US (namely, Chinese police) -- this is why I expect such insurance does not exist.

But I figured it couldn't hurt to ask!

If it's for professional use, you'll need to insure it accordingly. Otherwise, plenty of insurance companies will write you a policy. It's a lot less expensive than most people suspect.

For nonprofit use? Does that work?

I plan to be filming things that, while not illegal, don't necessarily portray them well, and especially local cops in small towns tend to feel like they can ignore the laws to protect their interests sometimes. Obviously I hope very much to avoid that situation but it's something I'd like to be prepared for anyway.
