Hello,

I am interested in purchasing insurance (accidental/theft) for my HMC150 and was looking for some suggestions. Do any of you currently have insurance on your camera and if so, who do use?

Thanks for your input,
Hizzo

Have one of my cams on my home owners insurance as a "scheduled" item. Due to the high replacement cost of the cam normal home owners would not cover it. As a scheduled item you list the camera value and are charged accordingly. If you are not a business you can probably do this.

Thanks for the info Mark, much appreciated. Would appreciate anyone else who as any input or experience with insuring your camera and who you use.

Thank you.

Do you shoot for a living or is the camera used for personal projects?
The answer to that may change the type of insurance policy you need to get.

As Mark mentioned, if you're using your gear for business then you can't put it on a personal insurance policy (like Homeowner's) - but if you're not a business then you wont' be able to get any sort of business policy.

I would probably start by calling whoever you have your current insurance through (auto, home, renters, whatever) to get some options and find out what you might be able to do.
I got my business policy through 'The Hartford' - they were very helpful in walking me through various options and answering all my questions.
If you need a business policy I would recommend giving them a call - otherwise, I would just start with your personal insurance company and go from there.

That's interesting, Mark - I found out from my insurance company that I have a certain percentage of the value of the policy that will carry over to items outside my home (ie. car gets broken into and things get stolen). I can't remember the percentage off hand, but I seem to remember it would have covered my camera at the time I got the policy (maybe not now). But again, that would only count towards personal items, not business items - which means my camera would not actually be covered.

I guess my point is - each policy is different.
If you have any existing insurance I would first check with the company and find out what you're covered for already, and what options they have to extend that coverage.
