Instructional Guitar DVD

Hello all! Just signed up to this very helpful forum after reading a few times. I've got 2 Instructional Guitar DVD's that I've had on the market for a couple years. I'm currently producing the next volume and have just entered the video recording phase. The DVX100A is very new to me and, unfortunately, I'm not a very tech-oriented person. The reason I bought one of these is because my other DVD's are slightly grainy. I would like these to be as clear as possible and am seeking the slightest bit of wisdom from those in the know. The area I'm shooting at isn't very big, so it shouldn't be that hard to do this. It ranges from my upper torso to my waist and is as wide as the average guitar is long. I've got a white backdrop and two lights. I use one to light the white backdrop and a higher powered one to light the subject. I set the camera to 60i with a shutter speed of 1/120 and the gain on medium for the viewfinder/monitor to look great. I will be slowing the video down 50% for the slow lessons. A big problem I've had in the past is that while watching the viewfinder reviewing what I just shot, the picture looks pristine. And then again in the preview of my Vegas 5 NLE........looks grand. Not until I render the video to MPEG2 and actually watch it on TV does it get the grainy look. I'm sure this problem germinates right from the beginning with lighting, camera settings, etc. How can the finished project look close to as clean as in the preview screens? Does Vegas have something to do with this? Thanks all, I appreciate any advise.

Turn off the gain, and add more light. A lot more light.

A 1/120 shutter needs a lot of light.

Gain adds noise.

Thanks David,

I'll do that. I was hoping I could get away with 2 lights on this but I was noticing earlier that while the background and neck of the guitar (which are the 2 things being directly lit) look good, the bottom end of the guitar (strumming end) is slightly dark. Another light it is! Thanks again!
