Hi everybody.
I recently finished a new silent horror short titled "The Institute of Séance," which we shot with a combinatin of DVX100a and Super-8 film.

You can see the trailer here on the official Web site:

or on Vimeo:

In the end, the movie consists of about 75% DVX footage and 25% Super-8 footage. The DVX Footage was tweaked in Magic Bullet Misfire to match the grain and contrast of the Super-8, and then both types of footage were further distressed using Misfire.

We intentionally limited the special effects to simple superimpositions, shooting composite elements against blackscreen as would have been appropriate for the silent era. (We had to cheat on special effects involving our villain, however, who wore black tails, so we shot his effects as greenscreen.)

We were fortunate in that composer Scott Radway provided an excellent score which does much to create the mood.

Our next screening will be June 26th at the Monster Bash convention outside of Pittsburgh.
