Instant Auto Focus While In Manual Focus Mode - How?

Can someone please explain what settings on the camera allow me to do the focus technique mentioned in another thread, where I am manually focusing and then I can press the shutter half was to get instant focus while shooting? I have the GH2 and I do not see this explained in the manual. Thanks.

I made those posts and it was AFS focus mode, not manual. And i also i referred to the Lumix 45-200mm lens being fast to do this and the pancake slow.

It's just a technique that will fast refocus if you whip pan a lot onto different subject within the FOV.

To give you and example, i shoot Surfskis from the back of a Jetski, there may be a number of them in the FOV at different distances. I generally whip pan from one to the other, so i want instant refocus to lock onto each ski using the half shutter press and then allow the auto focus to follow it with the focus marks. Works really well with the 45 - 200mm (i don't have the kit lens may also work with that)

thanks! I also read this over on dp review:

"This is actually a lot simpler than everyone makes it sound.
Go to the menu. Select the video section and set continuous autofocus to off. Now it will continuously autofocus before you hit the record button if you have the pre-focus option turned on. However, it will only refocus when you tell it to by pressing the shutter release half way while recording video. Since that setting only applies while you are recording you can still continuously auto focus for stills at the same time as using AFS for video. The GH2 is the first camera that really has the auto focus options setup correctly."
