installs

I have final cut studio 2 the full version installed on my mac pro can I install it on my mac book pro or does it only have one install?

Well it's essentially on the honor system. But it also checks the local network. If for example you have a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro both on the same network and/or connected to the same router, it will check to see the other version. If it finds another copy running a new copy will not start up until the first one quits.

In other words if you as an individual are going to use either the laptop or the desktop to run FCS it's not a problem. If however you plan to work with someone else at the same time it's technically not possible and a violation of the license included with your copy of FCS. If you want a site license or a second copy you'd need to purchase that.

You can uplug from the network( turn off airport or unplug the lan line) and you are running both at the same time. Got that straight from an Apple specialist). Pain in the butt though. We have two final cut work stations with 2 laptops as well. So we bought 2 complete FCP studio sets. One for each station then we mirrored those on the laptops.

Exactly- you can unplug your network or switch off Airport. It's meant to gently nudge you in the right direction of doing the right thing. If two people are using the same copy at the same time- that's the wrong thing.

Noah,

I hope I didn't imply we were using the same copies with multiple users... I was just saying it is possible and yeah if your any type of a legit outfit then you'll buy multiple copies for production work/users. Cool....

At least Apple has stayed away from hardware usb dongles and activation.

I can't see punishing the innocent because of the guilty
