Inspire 1 - DJI confirms IMU bug

Just a warning that a bug has been found following a few crashes this week, it's a software bug essentially, there's a lack of a pre-arm check on the IMU so it's possible to take off when it's out of whack resulting in a crash. Given the speed of the Inspire the damage from this bug could be severe so read up about the process for checking the IMU value before take off.

Actually, there has been a reversal on the "confirmed bug."

DJI backtracked and said they have no comment on the cause until they examine the flight logs from two of the affected Inspires.

Odd, the release note has the IMU fix in, so they're saying there is an IMU bug but not necessarily that it caused the two crashes?

Have you a link to the back tracking as RC Groups has the original info about it being a bug still in place?

What I read at RCGs was that announcement that the crashes noted on FB and elsewhere was IMU related were premature, and that until the logs were read, no association could be made.

I asked that question specifically and Ed Windham said that DJI sudden "transparency" on admitting firmware issues was premature.

The IMU bug was related to IMU rates going out of whack during shipment, and not necessarily related to the two crashes that were reported.

For the original comment to have been posted and the fix to have been made clearly a customer's Inspire has crashed due to an IMU fault and the only backtracking is questioning the assumption that the garage crash incident was more of the same.

DJI has had a few crashed Inspires back so has their logs and I understand they've provided a utility for other customers to send their logs for analysis also. DJI has told people not to fly and Ed is saying he's choosing to fly his at his own risk. A fair few users have also continued to fly with the new firmware and so far without consequence.

I follow the threads more on Facebook rather than RC Groups mainly as you get the first hand accounts. In the posts you linked the message seems to be the support people consider the Inspire to be used only by experienced users but the marketing has targetted it towards general consumers.

It's not a good week, now Apple iOS support has been pulled from the Inspire and Lightbridge, turns out DJI tried to get around the approval process by using its own Enterprise (internal use only) licence. Thankfully the Vision and Ronin apps were done legit.

If you listen to the audio on that video you can hear the control system state "waypoint has been taken" did that Inspire set off to a waypoint or is that a message stating it knows where its launch-point is.

I can't listen to it again at the moment, but if memory serves it's saying home-point not waypoint. Because DJI put the application up without going through iTunes it meant people could disassemble the code and look inside, so all the audio has been extracted.

My favourite message that the Inspire has is "out of control" I pity the person that ever has to hear that one.

Ok you can say what you want to but obviously this autonomous robot tried to autonomously KILL THAT WOMAN. I didn't think the robot uprising would begin with consumer drones but I guess it has. These things have a taste for blood- WE HAVE TO DESTROY ALL THESE CONSUMER VIDEO DRONES BEFOR ITS TOO LATE!

Proof of a autonomous drone hiding in the wild and then ATTACK MURDER KILLING a wedding couple on their wedding day- with absolutely ZERO REMORSE whats NEXT YOU SICK ROBOTS!?

These goddamnned sick robots from hell must be defeated.

The rising of the drone overlords has already begun, I agree on that.

The first half decent review of the Inspire is very positive. The only known issues are GPS seeming to drop out too often and failover to ATTI and there's a bug with the homepoint display. Think that's about it now:

There's never good news without bad at the moment, DJI is telling American users (according to first hand user reports on Facebook) they have a backlog of Inspires in for repairs such that the turnaround is now 2-3 weeks. So if you crash you won't be back up quickly, so make sure you've a spare unit if this is your livelihood.

I'm rather disappointed to report I've spoken to the first EU/UK Inspire owner to have a problem this evening, he's been treated really rather poorly, I'm not entirely surprised as DJI EU has an exceptionally poor reputation but the Inspire seemed at least in the US to be a turning point in customer service. The owner, just went out of video range, it could have been distance or an obstruction, he hit the RTH button, but rather than RTH, the Inspire partially returned to home then crashed...

This situation wouldn't be so bad, other than DJI suggested the user was a liar and had chosen land rather than RTL, this is a user that has over a year of experience with the Phantom and a TBS flying even at distance, he said:

Put it this way, if you are flying the inspire and a message comes up "remote control lost signal" and it's flashing red fast, you have two hands on the transmitter, you're right hand thumb is resting next to the RTH button, your panicking, do you option 1: press the RTH button that your thumb is 5mm away, option 2: take your hand off the transmitter completely so you can press a button on the iPad, then swipe the button to the right? Make your mind up as you are about to lose over £2300 quid of quad. You do the maths.

> Update, the owner gave up trying to get help from DJI and just had to buy the parts off a dealers demo unit to get filming again...
