I have a teacher who wants me to convert 120 vhs 40 minute tapes to dvd. All for a wopping $300. This is insane right. I could make more mowing lawns

you will need way more. it would probably take 2 hours at least for each tape. would you want to work for less than $2 an hour?

That is a huge amount of work. And a Zero to get fair(ish) compensation.

Check with a local dub house for their prices. Note that it will take you more time than them, but probably less initial investment in gear.

I'd suggest to the teacher that the teacher's budget barely covers a DVD/VHS dual deck. They should buy the dual deck and get in the habit of popping 4 tapes a night. They'll be done in about 1 month if they do this every night.

ya... when i think of it it would take way more in the neighbourhood of 4 hours each tape considering what kind of equipment you might use. i was figuring a PC, with a video input from a VCR to the video card, then burning to a dvd. I don't know if you can capture video in the right codec though so you might have to convert it.... hassles... ugh... just thinking of it makes me cringe i would hate to do that.

yeah I've done capturing of that magnitude (digitizing old family video) and after logging 50+ hours of stuff I wouldnt do it for any amount of money. Send your teacher to a dub house. Thats what I would do.
