Insane DVX Bookbag Deal

In case anyone is looking for a case for their camera...

I was looking around for a Porta Brace or similar soft-case system for on-the-go shooting and I wasn't about to spend $350-$450 on a little carryon or backpack. I found this very cool bag from http://www.ogio.com/ that is specifically designed for DVX and Sony VX cameras.

Most places have it for around $150 to $250, but I found a guy on eBay selling for $100 and free shipping. I just thought I would share this deal with my DVX brothers!

Links to his store. The DV bag is the Ty Evans model. Hope this helps/saves someone money.

I have this bag and for the price is great. It is actually intended for the sony vx2100. The dvx will fit okay on the right side - the eyepiece needs to be rolled back for it to fit okay. The depth of the main space is just a little too shallow and the handle will rise, maybe a 1/4 inch above. Not too bad, but you have to be careful of what you put in the zippered pouches in the main cover, or it will rub against the handle. Also, it is not deep enough if you have the microphone holder attached. You can unscrew it and leave it open so the cover does not push too hard on it.

Looking at the construction of the bag above, obviously you will never open it like that with a camera inside or everything will come tumbling out. You will most likely open it on its back - The reason I mention this is that the cover can get weighted down if you are using the inside zippered pockets and may not stay open - there are 2 cloth- strap hinges that keeps the cover at a 90 degree angle that prevents you from pulling the cover completely out of the way. It gets a little frustrating trying to get something out and the bag keeps closing on you. Other than cutting those straps, there is not a way to keep that bag open.

The side pockets are roomy, but not well padded at all. The zippers are made so that they are best used when standing on the bottom (like how it is on the left in the above picture) Otherwise, when it is laying on the back, the opening is small and hard to open completely. One side of the bag (not shown in the picture) has these huge clips designed to hold a tripod. No tripod worthy of holding a dvx will make this useful. The clips tend to get in the way of the pockets on that side. It also has a handle like the one at the top on the side, so you can carry it on its side.

The top pocket will hold a laptop, or maybe even 2, but the padding is pretty thin between the cover and the inside of the bag. Any weight in there will rest on top of the camera handle.

The bag also boasts a feature called an "integrated lighting system", which consists of a keychain light attached to the clip on the top part of the cover. I chuckled over that one.

Again, for the price, it is a nice bag. But I am pretty particular and the minor things tend to annoy me.

Sheez -- sorry to get so long winded with this - I guess this has become more of a mini-review. I'll try to attach pictures next time. :)

Always glad to help. Mine should be here tomorrow... I can't wait. Big weekend of shooting street segments for our tomgreen.com pilot. This thing seems to be perfect for stop and go videography. I can't stand lugging around all of my hardshell cases for a 5 minute piece.

RokMartian - I have a Fuji digital SLR that I want to carry along... think it will fit on the other side of the DVX? It looks like the velcro pads can be formed to hold an SLR.

I think you could -- I never thought about that. I have an slr too that I may try out tonight. I would be interested in seeing how you set it up. Currently, I have my camera, 3 batteries, hoodman, power cord, firestore and headphones all in the interior. I would think that an slr would fit.
