Ingestion into FCP question skips clips

Hi guys, I need some tech advice. I don't often edit my AF100 footage but need to on this project.

I am on FCP6 and with Log & Transfer I highlighted ALL the clips yet some are being skipped. Also, it has taken all day for about 2 hours of material to be ingested whereas if this was P2 it would have been about 40 minutes.

Does anyone know why it is skipping clips?

Thank you

Ned, are you doing the L&T straight from the card? If so, try copying over to your fastest drive and try again.

I've found in the past that if you're using the computer for other tasks while importing with Log and Transfer some clips can be skipped (or you might only get half a clip). Even just browsing the internet. And this happens with no warning or errors.

Are you transferring directly from the camera via USB? I tend to copy the card to a FireWire drive (using my MacBook Pro SD card slot) and then log and transfer from the drive. Copying a 16GB card usually takes about 10 minutes and then the ingest happens roughly in real time - maybe a little faster.

Thanks for your replies. Now I'm getting paranoid.

I am transferring from the hard drive I transferred to from the cards. The first thing I do is make two copies from the card. I may try to transfer from the card after I finish typing this.

I was not doing anything while it was ingesting, I tend to start ingest and then do other chores with other computers.

Don't know what 5D to RGB is.

I changed the preferences AFTER this issue to be AVCHD to Pro Res but from what I read it doesn't matter(?)

I come from the P2 world, I never trusted these little cards...ALSO, Is there something about the AF100's codec going into FCP that makes it go so sloooooow?

Thanks

Hi Noel,

When I first started I had it in the P2 setting and when I realized I had this problem I changed it to AVCHD. The problem didn't go away. Perhaps I should have changed when I first started? I edit 95% P2 so it did not occur to me that there a L&T setting.

Just did some research, seems the problem is I am on FCP6:

Oh well. I have to figure out what to do for my next edit or I will leave the AF100 world. No sense buying an outboard recorder just for this.

Thanks

Well I found a solution: I bought ClipWrap for $49 and it's transcoding at about the speed of a P2 ingest, so all is well.

Thanks for your help guys.
